What you should know about Avon and the region on Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013.

Happy Tuesday, Avon!

After an exhausting few days of moving to a new town that borders the other side of Avon, I've finally dug my new room out of the rubble of boxes and bags containing all my belongings. I went running Monday and started exploring my new neighborhood.

When you move to a new place, you observe every little detail from the dog next door constantly chasing after its red ball to the flowers, trees and people out and about.

At some point, Avon was a new town for someone in your family. What were some of the first things you noticed about Avon? When was it that Avon started to feel like home? Please share with us in the comments!

Here are some notable Avon and region news, events and blogs we recommend you check out, whether you're a longtime resident or a newcomer:

Congratulations, Avon Little Leaguers!: Avon Little League swept two tournaments with victories recently, one in Farmington and the other in West Hartford. Read all about how the players did in this Avon Little League reader-submitted post by clicking on the link provided.

State Reps Volunteer at Mobile Foodshare: Avon State Reps. Brian Becker (D-19) and Tim LeGeyt (R-17) recently helped distribute food to area residents in need outside the Church of Saint Ann. Mobile Foodshare happens every other Tuesday at the church from 10 to 10:30 a.m. The next one is scheduled for Aug. 13. Visit the Mobile Foodshare website for more information.

Taking a trip or just commuting to work? Click here to check the DOT's interactive travel map before you leave home.

Shark Week's back! While we're on the topic of sharks, Junk Food, a comic by Free Lunch Studios in Granby, has posted a few shark-themed cartoons so far this week. Take a look by clicking here, here and here.

We've got sunshine! It looks like more sun is in the forecast for Tuesday, reaching a high of 81 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. Rain and thunder is possible on Wednesday, so you may want to get your beach day trip in today!

Bonus Fun: Later in the week (Aug. 8), right from Avon, you can chat with scientists with the National and Atmospheric Administration on Twitter about sharks by tagging #SharkWeekChat in your tweets.

Have a wonderful Tuesday!

That's not all that's going on. Take a look at our calendar and Boards. Don't see your event mentioned? Please add it!
