AVON, CT — The Old Farms Road and Bridge project is continuing on schedule. A relatively mild winter allowed the contractor to continue to make progress, while the wetter than normal spring slowed them down. Archaeologic work was completed in April. The site was found to be of great interest to the Archaeological community and we have been told that artifacts found contribute significantly to historians understanding of native American populations as long ago as 12,000 years. The Town is working with the State Historic Preservation Office to acquire information and examples that can be displayed in Avon. They anticipate it will take over two years for archaeologists to compile, review, and document all of the various findings from the site.

Passersby will see that significant earthwork has been done along with emerging concrete structures that will become the abutments and piers that support the bridge and roadway.
