The lights are operational and have been turned over to the Board of Education for use. A plan for additional landscaped buffering around the site to mitigate the project’s impact to the surrounding neighborhoods has been developed by the Engineering Department with the input of the neighbors. Briefly, the plan as proposed includes 66 giant arborvitae to be planted along the south end of the track, 14 arborvitae to be planted at 529 West Avon Road and a wood stockade fence to be installed at 28 Sudbury Way on the south end of the track. A rendering of the plan is available HERE. The total cost of the project is estimated at $70,000. The Board of Education is expected to contribute $10,000 towards the project cost for the purpose of expanding the irrigation system in the project area. On June 3rd, the Town Council reviewed the proposed buffering design and approved a supplemental appropriation in the amount of $60,000. The Board of Finance also approved the same supplemental appropriation at their June 28th meeting. The landscaping work will be completed this fall.
