Winter Team State Championship History: Avon High School

AVON, CT — As practices for high school winter sports officially get underway Monday (girls basketball, ice hockey and wrestling) and Thursday (boys basketball, indoor track, boys swimming and girls gymnastics), hopes run high for all teams to achieve the ultimate goal: winning a league championship, and possibly a state title.

To help squads get into the championship mentality, here is a listing of the 16 winter team titles won by Avon High School in past years (* - indicates a co-op team).

• wrestling (8) - Class S: 1995, 1994, 1993, 1990, 1989, 1987, 1983, 1982
• boys indoor track (4) - Class S: 1968, 1966, 1965, 1964
• boys basketball (2) - Div. III: 2005; Class S: 1988
• boys ice hockey (1) - Div. II: 2018*
• girls basketball (1) - Class M: 2008
