BETHEL, CT — A 21-year-old Bethel woman was struck and killed by a car when she was riding her bicycle in Texas, according to KTXS News. Police said that Casey Ellis, daughter of Sue and Rob Myers, granddaughter of well-known Bethel family Linda and Skipp Clapp, was riding her bicycle and entered the intersection without yielding to a red light, according to a police report.
Ellis was wearing a helmet, police said, but she was pronounced dead after being taken to Hendrick Medical Center in Texas, according to the report. No charges have yet been filed against the driver and the crash is still under investigation.
Casey Ellis died on Nov. 24, 2016. She was a 2013 graduate of Bethel High School and a student at Abilene Christian University in Texas studying social work. The family has been through another difficult trial over the last several years and last year, Casey started a blog entitled "Susie's Story" in order to find a match for her mother who needed a liver transplant. After receiving a positive match for her mom Casey wrote the following about the woman who saved her mother's life:

"We know that our donor was a young woman. She had been on life support for several days. This woman's family had specifically requested that, if this woman was a match, her liver be given to my Mom. To the young woman whose life ended by giving life to others, we grieve for you and still we thank you with all our hearts. You have not died in vain. To her family if you are reading this, THANK YOU. There are not enough "thank you's" in this world, not enough ways to say it in any language."
Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
