Bethel Firefighters Warn of Donation Scam
The Fire Department only raises funds though a single avenue. Other fundraisers are scams.
The Bethel Fire Department is warning residents of a potential scam circulating around town collecting funds for the department under false pretenses.
In the scam, people posing as representatives from the department solicit donations in order to get residents’ credit card information.
“While we do in fact appreciate the donations that we receive through our regular fund drive, that is the only authorized donations that we have,” Lt. Brendan Ryan said. “Our fund drive is strictly through the mail and has the department letterhead on it.”
Ryan asked that any residents approached about donating through any other means report it to the police.
