Bethel Public Library Presents Program On Brass Mills

Author Emery Roth II will speak about his experiences documenting the waning days of the last mill in CT's Brass Valley.

From the Bethel Public Library: The Bethel Public Library is proud to present "Brass Valley: The Fall of an American Industry" on Monday June 24, 2019, at 6:30 pm, in the Library's Community Room. Author Emery Roth II will speak about his experiences documenting the waning days of the last mill in Connecticut's Brass Valley and will show the stunning images from his book.

Over the course of four years, Roth documented the men and machinery of the Valley's last large-scale brass mills. He was given permission to take photographs and interview the foundry men, and to show the inner workings of the Valley’s casting furnaces and extrusion mills. Roth's photographs capture the scenes at the foundry in its final days, as well as other sites in the surrounding community, resulting in a poignant record of an American way of life that is no more.

Roth is the recipient of the Preservation Award of Merit, awarded by the Connecticut Trust for Historic Preservation. A Q&A and book signing session will follow the program. An exhibit of Emery Roth's photographs will be on display in the Bethel Public Library's Art Gallery from June 17 to July 31, 2019.
