Bethel's Byrd's Books Hosts Program About Frontier Legends
CT radio personality Jim Motavalli is the author of "The Real Dirt on America's Frontier Legends."
From Byrd's Books: So...what do you really know about Daniel Boone, Davy Crocket, and "Buffalo Bill" Cody? To bring you up to speed, Fairfield, CT's Jim Motavalli, who hosts a popular radio program on WPKN-FM in Bridgeport, will be on hand to discuss and sign his latest book, The Real Dirt on America's Frontier Legends, on Wednesday, Feb. 26, 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., at Bethel's Byrd's Books.
The first in a new Wild West series, The Real Dirt reveals what American tall tales won't tell you about the larger-than-life characters we all know from our elementary school history lessons. Byrd's Books is located at 178 Greenwood Avenue, adjacent to The Toy Room and the nearby landmarked Opera House, across the street from the Bethel Public Library.
In many cases, the stories we know of famous frontiersmen and women are no more true than the tale of Paul Bunyan. The tall tales won't tell you, for instance, that David Crockett was a congressman, and Daniel Boone a Virginia legislator. Thanks to penny dreadfuls, Wild West shows, sensationalist newspaper stories, and yes, those cherished tall tales, Jim has woven a humor-full, informative send up of the true giants of the American frontier. To learn The Real Dirt as Jim separates fact from fiction, you can save a spot and pre-order the book by going to https://conta.cc/3bfqrvB
