Hero Dog Alerts Owner To The Fire Next Door, In Bethel

Firefighters are crediting a neighbor's dog from preventing a deck fire from becoming a major tragedy.

BETHEL, CT — A neighborhood dog prevented a deck fire from becoming a major tragedy on Sunday, fire officials are reporting.

At approximately 04:30 a.m. a resident on Putnam Park Road, awakened by their dog, called Bethel and Stony Hill firefighters about a fire on the back deck of their next door neighbor's house.

Officers from the Bethel Police Department evacuated the family inside while firefighters from Stony Hill extinguished the fire. The fire did not extend into the home and only damaged the deck, Stony Hill officials posted on social media.

No injuries were reported, and the family was able to return to their home once the firefighters had left the scene.

The fire is under investigation by the Bethel Emergency Management and Fire Marshal Office.
