The sinkhole was discovered directly beneath the tracks in the eastbound lane of the grade crossing, according to town officials. Greenwood Avenue is currently closed at the downtown railroad crossing for emergency track and grade crossing repairs, and will remain closed through Monday morning, June 14.

Workers will be removing and replacing bout 30 yards of track, ties and grade crossing platforms. Metro North engineers are overseeing the project.
