BETHANY, CT — Joister Pacheco-Attaide, 38, of Danbury has been identified as the person who was killed during Thursday's barn collapse in town. Pacheco-Attaide died after a 1900 barn that was being refurbished collapsed on the construction worker Thursday morning, State Police said at a press conference. A second construction employee was outside of the barn when it collapsed and was not injured.

State Police said at 8:42 a.m. emergency responders were called to the area of the 81 Litchfield Turnpike for the reports of a collapsed barn. A trooper was nearby working a road job and rushed to the scene after hearing the loud crash.

The trooper tried to reach the trapped worker but was not able to gain access initially due to the the unsafe conditions.

The barn restoration project has been ongoing since January or February, State Police said. OSHA and State Police are conducting their own separate investigations.

Media reports say the town denied a permit for the barn renovation back in February including WFSB 3 TV. That claim was later corrected by town officials.
