Obituary: Dr. James V. Bosco Jr. D.D.S., 82, of Woodbridge

James, an acclaimed dentist in the Woodbridge community, was a member of the Woodbridge Rotary Club along with numerous organizations.

WOODBRIDGE, CT - (From North Haven Funeral Home) Dr. James V. Bosco Jr. D.D.S., 82, of Woodbridge, passed away on Monday, February 1, 2021 at his home. He was the beloved husband of 53 years to Barbara Abbatello Bosco.

Dr. Bosco was born in New Haven on October 5, 1938 and was the son of the late James V. Bosco Sr. and Raffaella “Ray” DeRosa Bosco.

Father of Dr. Kimberly Ann Free ND, James V. Bosco III (Rachel) and Wesley J. Bosco (Amanda). Grandfather of Phoenix A. Free, James V. Bosco IV, Luciano Louis Bosco, Gianni Vincenzo Bosco and Arianna Diane Bosco. Great Grandfather of Juvia and Julian Stowell-Free.

Brother of Eileen Khan (Farooq) and the late Gena Tannoia (Louis) and Rosemary Panico (Joseph). Also, survived by many nieces and nephews which he adored.

Dr. Bosco attended Hillhouse High School and then Providence College where he graduated with honors earning a bachelor’s degree in Biology. Dr. Bosco received a fellowship in medicine at Yale University and later attended Temple Dental School in Philadelphia.

He joined the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam war where he was a Dental Surgeon and received the Outstanding Service Award, Expert Marksmanship medal and the Distinguished Service medal. He was honorably discharged as a permanent grade Captain.

Dr. Bosco opened his dental practice in Woodbridge and served the community dental needs for 33 years. He was a charter member of the Woodbridge Rotary Club and was the recipient of the most prestigious Paul Harris Fellow award.

Dr. Bosco also served the Boys Scouts of America Troop #907 of Woodbridge for several years as Scoutmaster as well as the Quinnipiac Council’s Scout Advancement Chairman, District Chairman, Council Vice President and the recipient of the Silver Beaver Award.

He was a Vigil Honor member of the Order of the Arrow in Arcoon Lodge 369.

Dr. Bosco loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was also a life member of the Hamden Fish & Game Club having served as an appointed wildlife ranger by the Town of Hamden and a life member and instructor of the NRA.

Family and friends are invited to go directly to Saint Elizabeth of the Trinity Parish at St. Barnabas Church, 44 Washington Avenue, North Haven on Saturday, February 6th at 12 noon to attend a Mass of Christian burial and are also invited to attend the committal service immediately following with full military honors in St. Lawrence Cemetery, West Haven.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Wounded Warrior Project in Dr. Bosco’s name.
