Woodbridge Man Auctions Off Lou Gehrig Cap For Six Figures
The man auctioned off most of his sports memorabilia collection.
WOODBRIDGE, CT — A Woodbridge man sold a Yankees cap worn by Lou Gehrig for $312,000 at an auction.
Longtime baseball fan Bob Ellis' wife Jill inherited the cap from her mother who was friends with Gehrig's mother Christina when they lived in Milford, according to the Connecticut Post.
He auctioned off the cap and 70 other items for around $551,000 before fees and taxes. Other items included Gehrig's personal checks, a baby picture and an autographed ball signed by Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb and others.
