‘ART TO GO’ Billboard Launched by Mayor Ganim, City Lights

To recognize the 10th anniversary of the Bridgeport Art Trail, Mayor Ganim and the City of Bridgeport will join City Lights on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at 11:45 a.m. at the corner of Broad Street and South Frontage Road, Bridgeport, CT to launch “Art to Go,” an initiative that will honor an artist every month throughout the year by displaying their artwork on the I-95 digital billboard.

“We are very excited about supporting the arts and the artists in Bridgeport,” said Mayor Ganim. “We look forward to sharing the works of our artists and we hope that they realize their value. The arts are a vibrant and colorful part of our community and its culture. They inspire expression as well as an innovative and creative spirit for our city.”

City Lights Executive Director, Suzanne Kachmar says, “The arts and culture are a natural resource of humanity that needs to be protected, just as we protect forests, air and water supplies. Artists and cultural traditions demonstrate how resilience can be transformed into beauty, solve problems, pass down heritage and build community. Bridgeport artists epitomize this. They are a cultural resource from diverse backgrounds, specializing in a variety of art forms. This billboard project reflects the creativity and potential that is rejuvenating Bridgeport.”

The first artist to be featured is Dustin DeMilio, photographer and musician producing digitally composed work for the eyes and the ears. Billboard graphic design and creative services are an in-kind contribution from Hatch 130. City Lights & Company is a non-profit arts organization that serves the community through art and a recipient of the Hatch 130 Initiative.
