Bridgeport Bluefish Kick Off 20th Season This Weekend

Amid an uncertain future, the Bluefish will kick off their milestone season Friday.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — The Bridgeport Bluefish will kick off their 20th season at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard this weekend as they return for their first home game on Friday, April 28. Mayor Joe Ganim will throw out the first pitch Friday evening.

“I’m really thrilled to be a part of this day, and wish the Bluefish a successful 20th season,” said Mayor Ganim in a prepared statement. “The Bluefish have been a staple in our community for over 20 years. They are an attraction for our city and bring entertainment to families in Bridgeport and the surrounding towns. I am honored to be able to throw the first pitch.”

The team's operating agreement with the city expired at the end of last season, but was renewed for an extra year so that the two sides can come to an agreement, reports the Connecticut Post. It's future at the ballpark is currently unclear following confusion with submission of bids to run the park.

“We’re so excited to begin our first home stand of this landmark season. We have a ton of new and exciting things to offer this year," said Bluefish General Manager Paul Hermann in a statement. We’re also on track to welcome our four millionth fan to the ballpark early this season, which is another great milestone for our franchise.”
