Bridgeport Man Pleads Guilty To Gun, Drug Charges: Feds

Branden Huertas pleaded guilty to federal charges.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — A Bridgeport man pleaded guilty to drug distribution and gun possession charges, according to Leonard C Boyle, Acting United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut. Branden Huertas, 39, pleaded guilty to one count of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance and one count of possession a firearm by a felon.

According to prosecutors, in January 2020, police made made two controlled purchases of cocaine from Huertas. Huertas was arrested on Feb. 26, 2020, after police searched his vehicle and found quantities of heroin, cocaine, crack cocaine, marijuana and ecstasy.

Police then searched his home and found additional quantities of crack and heroin, items used to process and package narcotics for street sale, a loaded 9mm Taurus PT-92C semi-automatic handgun, and additional rounds of ammunition.

Huertas has a criminal history that dates to 1998 and includes state convictions for drug, weapon, robbery, burglary and larceny crimes, and federal convictions in 2015 for possession of firearm by a felon, and in 2019 for escape from custody.

Huertas was on federal supervised release at the time of his arrest.

He faces a maximum term of 30 years in prison. He is scheduled for sentencing July 19.
