Bridgeport Man Sentenced On Gun Charges: Feds

Shannon Calhoun will serve three years in federal prison.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — A Bridgeport man has been sentenced to three years in federal prison for illegal possession of a gun, according to a statement from Leonard C Boyle, Acting United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut. Shannon Calhoun, 49, will also serve three years of supervised release.

According to prosecutors, Calhoun was subject to a state parole compliance check at his Bridgeport home in May 2019. After a parole officer found a plastic bag containing marijuana in Calhoun’s bedroom, the parole officer contacted the Bridgeport Police Department.

Police continued the search of Calhoun’s bedroom and found a loaded .40 caliber handgun and a coffee bean grinder containing heroin residue.

Calhoun’s criminal history includes state felony convictions for sale of narcotics, first-degree assault, second-degree larceny, weapon in a motor vehicle; third-degree burglary, carrying a dangerous weapon, possession of narcotics, criminal possession of a weapon, and failure to appear.

Calhoun has been detained since his arrest May 22, 2019. He later pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.
