Bridgeport Mayor Ganim Hosts Pride Flag Raising

Bridgeport Native Joe Grabarz, the First Openly Gay State Representative in Connecticut, will Raise the LGBTQ Flag

City of Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim is hosting a LGBTQ Flag Raising Ceremony in celebration of Gay Pride Month at City Hall Annex, 999 Broad Street, Bridgeport on Wednesday, June 12 at Noon. This annual ceremony has special significance this year as it is the 50th Anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising in New York City.

Bridgeport native Joe Grabarz, the first openly gay State Representative in Connecticut and one of the first in the United States, will raise the flag and give brief remarks. Representatives of the Triangle Community Center will join other community leaders including members of the Bridgeport City Council. The Reverend Sara Smith, the pastor of United Congregational Church, the oldest church in Greater Bridgeport and a lesbian, will offer a brief prayer. Paul DiMauro from the CT Gay Men's Chorus will sing the National Anthem.

Complimentary pizza and ice cream with rainbow sprinkles will be provided while supplies last.
