Fundraising Underway For New Tiger Habitat At CT's Beardsley Zoo
Two rare Amur tigers were born at the zoo in the fall.
BRIDGEPORT, CT — Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo is in the midst of raising funds for a new tiger habitat for the two new Amur tigers born in the fall at the Bridgeport facility. The goal is $5,000, and already the zoo has raised nearly $4,000 from 68 donors as of today, Jan. 19.
"We are raising funds to create a design for a new Amur tiger habitat," wrote zoo officials in a statement. "A new tiger habitat has been a dream of Zoo staff for some time and we would like to fund the process of bringing in an architect and laying the groundwork to make this a reality."
The two new female tigers are the offspring of parents, Petya (a male) and Changbai (a female), who are already residents of the zoo. They are part of the Species Survival Plan that is administered by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, according to officials.
