I-95 Reopens After Wrong Way Driver Causes Accident: UPDATE

The serious accident occurred this morning on I-95 in Bridgeport.

(Editor's Note: Police initially said the southbound side is closed but the state DOT has corrected that to say the northbound side is closed as of 9:30 a.m. Saturday.)

BRIDGEPORT, CT — A wrong-way driver has crashed into a tractor trailer on Interstate 95, which closed a portion of the highway this morning in Bridgeport. The highway was shutdown for more than six hours before reopening prior to noon.

Police say at 3:54 a.m. on I-95 northbound, Exit 27, a wrong way driver crashed into a tractor-trailer head-on.

"Both vehicles are currently engulfed in flames and at least one of the passengers are still in the vehicle. FD, PD and state PD are in scene. All lanes near this incident are closed," Bridgeport Police said around 4 a.m.
