Man Sentenced For Dealing Fentanyl In Bridgeport: Feds

A California man was sentenced for dealing fentanyl in Bridgeport.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — A California man was sentenced to 45 months in prison for dealing fentanyl in Bridgeport, according to a statement from Leonard C Boyle, Acting United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut. Oscar Zavala, who went by aliases including “Manuel Garcia Martinez,” “Oscar Rangel Zavala,” and “Oscar Zavala Rangel,” 43, will also serve three years of supervised release.

According to prosecutors, Zavala was part of an organization targeted by a Drug Enforcement Administration investigation into heroin, fentanyl, and crack cocaine dealers dealing in Bridgeport. The organization had a connection to Mexican drug cartel traffickers and received a steady supply of narcotics from the west coast of the U.S.

After members of the organization arranged to purchase a kilogram of heroin from a supplier in December 2019, Zavala met an individual in a parking lot in San Diego and provided him with 1.1 kilograms of fentanyl in exchange for $27,000, according to prosecutors.

Zavala was arrested Feb. 10, 2020. Investigators found that a storage locker in San Diego that Zavala had access to had about six kilograms of cocaine.

Zavala has been detained since his arrest. He pleaded guilty in February to one count of conspiracy to distribute and to possess with intent to distribute heroin and fentanyl.
