Black Rock Democratic Town Committee Endorses Newcomer Matt McCarthy With Veteran Scott Burns

Black Rockers Matt McCarthy and Scott Burns were endorsed as Black Rock City Council Candidates at the Tuesday, July 23, 2019 Democratic nominating convention in Bridgeport to represent the 130th City Council District. The district includes all of Black Rock and parts of the West End.
Burns previously served on the City Council from 2015 to 2017 and was Co-Chair of the City Council's Budget and Appropriations Committee. Burns currently serves as the president of the Black Rock Neighborhood Revitalization Zone and served on the steering committee for the city Master Plan of Conservation and Development. Burns is involved in many charitable causes including homeless prevention through Alpha Community Services of the Central Connecticut Coast YMCA. He and his family live on Eames Boulevard.
McCarthy is a Certified Public Accountant who recently served in a volunteer role as the city's hearing officer for parking violations. Matt McCarthy is a city native who serves on the Housatonic Community College Foundation board of directors and is very active in the Black Rock Community Council. McCarthy’s brother is former Council Member Martin McCarthy, co-owner of the Fire Engine Pizza Company in the Black Rock neighborhood. He and his wife live on Harbor Avenue and both volunteered for Black Rock 375.

If this nomination is contested, the Democratic Primary will be held on September 10, 2019.
