Winter Team State Championship History: Bridgeport Schools

BRIDGEPORT, CT — As practices for high school winter sports officially get underway in Connecticut Monday (girls basketball, ice hockey and wrestling) and Thursday (boys basketball, indoor track, boys swimming and girls gymnastics), hopes run high for all teams to achieve the ultimate goal: winning a league championship, and possibly a state title.

To help squads get into the championship mentality, here is a listing of the 33 CIAC winter team titles won by Bridgeport-based high schools in past years (* - indicates a co-op team).

Harding

• boys basketball (12) - Class LL: 2001; Class L: 1997, 1991, 1987, 1986, 1985, 1984, 1983, 1978, 1976, 1973, 1943
• boys indoor track (1) - Class L: 1954

Kolbe Cathedral

• girls basketball (7) - Class M: 2010, 1977; Class L: 2008; Class S: 2007, 2005, 2004, 2000
• boys basketball (5) - Div. IV: 2018; Div. II: 2004; Class M: 1999, 1985, 1971

Bridgeport Central

• boys basketball (5) - Class LL: 2014, 2010, 2003, 1975; Class L: 1939
• girls basketball (1) - Class LL: 1994

Bassick

• boys basketball (2) - Class L: 1989, 1940
