The 10th Anniversary Hot COCO 5K Nov 17th!

The 10th Anniversary Hot COCO 5K Expects Over 800 Participants on November 17!

The 10th annual Hot COCO 5K & Kids Fun Run takes place Saturday, November 17 in Cheshire. The scenic rolling 5K course begins at The Norton School and travels the historic Farmington Canal Line. This year the event is introducing a 1 mile walk that travels out-and-back through Cheshire’s residential neighborhoods. The Kids Fun Run starts at 10:00am and is followed by the 5K/walk at 10:10am. The race benefits Abilities Without Boundaries, Cheshire’s premiere non-profit providing individuals with disabilities with the freedom and opportunity to succeed in social and vocational pursuits within a safe, nurturing environment.

With nearly 800 participants in 2017, organizers expect to attract over 800 runners and walkers on November 18! Long sleeve technical running shirts are given to the first 500 entrants in the 5K/walk. All remaining participants and Kids Fun Run participants receive cotton t-shirts. After the race, runners and spectators are invited to enjoy a post-race party featuring entertainment, food, beverages, live music, children’s activities, awards ceremony and more. Hot cocoa is also provided! Cash prizes are awarded to the top three overall male and female 5K finishers. Awards are given to top age-group finishers. All runners in the Kids Fun Run receive a finisher ribbon.

Dr. Lloyd Saberski, Abilities Without Boundaries Board Member and Hot COCO Race Chairman, said the race is an important fundraiser but does much more, “We want our local community to be more aware of the developmentally disabled adults we serve. Their needs are often overlooked. Abilities Without Boundaries offers an important service to our community and the race greatly raises our organization’s visibility. We rely upon our community to provide job opportunities for our program participants, as well as funding support.”
