Bus Tour of Historic Railroad and Trolley lines

From Diane Calabro, Cheshire Historical Society

CHESHIRE HISTORICAL SOCIETY RAIL AND TROLLEY TOUR Sunday, May 15, 2016, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

The Cheshire Historical Society is pleased to announce a bus tour of historic railroad and trolley lines in the area on Sunday, May 15, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Air-conditioned luxury coach has Wi-fi, AC outlets, restroom.

Westward from Cheshire Street, we will follow the Meriden, Waterbury & Connecticut River RR to Union Station, Waterbury. On the eastward return trip, the route of the Cheshire Street Rwy trolley line will be traced. Service on the MW&CR lasted from 1888 to 1924 and on the CSR from 1905 to 1934. Several photo stops are planned to view beautiful old stone culverts and railroad bridge ruins. The tour coincides with the completion of the Farmington Canal Rail Trail from West Main St. to Jarvis St. in Cheshire, thus restoring another segment of the 188-year-old transportation corridor that debuted in 1828.

Bob Belletzkie, Tyler City Station rail historian, will be narrating.

Souvenir tour book included for $40 with lunch (Blackie’s all-you-can-eat hot dogs!) or $30 without lunch.
