Business Spotlight: Nurse Born, Products Designed by Nurses
Cheshire resident and registered nurse Sarah Brennan Mott has started a company producing products by nurses and for nurses.

Working as a registered nurse, Cheshire resident Sarah Brennan Mott often saw her colleagues come up with solutions to the challenges they faced.
And when after an injury she came up with an inventive way to hang her stethoscope, she also discovered a business opportunity.
"I am a registered nurse and entrepreneur with a passion for helping people," she said.
"While working on a busy orthopedic floor, I suffered a neck injury. The pain from my injury was aggravated from the weight of the stethoscope around my neck," she said. "Unable to find a satisfactory alternative to carrying the stethoscope, I came up with the idea to design a stethoscope holster that could easily clip onto my uniform.
Eventually, the pain and headaches from the injury forced her to resign from her position on the orthopedic floor, she said.
"Home, recuperating and bored, I decided to construct a stethoscope holster out of things that I found around the house," she said.
That innovation gave birth to Nurse Born, Products Designed by Nurses. Nurse Born's grand opening was August 2013.
"It was during the process of invention that I reflected on my experiences in the clinical setting. I realized that the nurses that I worked with over the years continuously came up with innovative ideas to solve problems associated with various aspects of the job," she said. "It was these nurses that inspired me to create Nurse Born, products designed by nurses."
Mott said she is working with a manufacturer who has helped take her idea and turn it into a product.
"I have developed a relationship with several retailers who have added the Nurse Born Stethoscope Holster to their inventory," she said. "Nurses and other healthcare professionals love it when they see it."
In the future she wants to add products that have been designed by other nurses, she said.
"As the business grows, I would like to employ nurses that have been displaced from their career due to disability," she said.
