Cheshire Council Approves Discount Prescription Program

Residents without prescription drug insurance can get discounts through this free program.

Cheshire residents who don't have prescription drug insurance coverage will soon have the opportunity to participate in a discount prescription program that could save money on medications.

The Cheshire Town Council approved the town's participation in the Discount Prescription Card program through the Connecticut Conference of Municipalities. Participation is free to the town through its CCM membership.

According to the CCM website, the program can save residents as much as 45 percent off the cost of prescriptions. About 100 municipalities already participate and have saved almost $2 million using it, according to the site.

Residents have inquired about the program, Town Manager Michael Milone told the council, and all of the pharmacies in Cheshire have agreed to participate.

There is no cost to the town for the program, which is administered through ProAct Inc. The town does not have to supply any administrative functions for the program.

Information about the program will be sent to residents and will be available on the town's website.
