What's Closed and Open on Labor Day in Cheshire
A long weekend is upon us, here's what's open and closed for the holiday.
Labor Day took root following the strike against Illinois railroad manufacturers in the 1890s. Monday is a day off for employees of all industries, so here's what's closed on Monday:
- All Cheshire municipal offices and library
- All Cheshire public schools
- All federal and state offices
- U.S. financial markets
- Banks and credit unions ( is open in Cheshire)
- All postal offices
- Commuter trains such as Shore Line East and Metro North will run on a holiday/weekend schedule Monday
- The DMV open today (Friday) from 7:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and then closed until Tuesday at 7:45 a.m.
Here's what open on Sept. 3, Labor Day:
- Retail Stores
- Supermarkets
- Restaurants
- Convenience stores
- Bars/Taverns
- Package stores (for the first time this year)
