CHESHIRE, CT — The number of confirmed cases of the new coronavirus in Cheshire is 90, according to the latest numbers from the Chesprocott Health District. Six residents have died as a result of complications from the new coronavirus, officials said.

The breakdown of confirmed cases by gender and age, as reported by Chesprocott, is as follows: 46 males between 16 and 97 years old and 44 females between 23 and 105 years old.

Town officials this week announced a new financial assistance program to help offset some of the immediate impacts felt by residents as a result of the new coronavirus pandemic. The "Cheshire COVID-19 Assistance Program" will serve as a means to provide financial assistance to community members that have been directly impacted by the virus, officials said.

During the coronavirus pandemic, the town has closed outdoor facilities, including playgrounds, the dog park and athletic fields. Town Manager Sean M. Kimball issued an executive order late last month that closes town and school playgrounds, tennis and basketball courts, the dog park and the Cheshire High School grounds until further notice.

Kimball previously issued an executive order that prohibits door-to-door solicitation in Cheshire during the response of the new coronavirus.
