“Our comedy night as a great way to have fun and help support our community service nonprofit organization,” Executive Director Julie Rodriguez said. “The format is BYOB drinks and food. We’ll create a nightclub atmosphere in the Cheshire Parks & Recreation building. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show starts at 8, so there’s plenty of time for socializing and fun. You can come alone or bring a group of friends. But we are selling out fast so please call right away if you’re interested in attending.”

The comedy night is a prelude to AWB’s 11th annual Hot COCO Race November 16. The Hot COCO includes a certified 5K race along the scenic Farmington Canal Trail, a kid’s fun run and a one-mile walk.

“Funds raised by the comedy night go to the same causes as the Hot COCO Race which include a new music therapy program at AWB,” Rodriguez said.

AWB supports disabled adults ages 21 to 80 from Cheshire and a dozen surrounding towns. Individuals typically visit weekdays and participate in employment and day support programs tailored to each participant’s needs and abilities.

“Abilities Without Boundaries helps individuals with special needs become more independent in the community,” Rodriguez said. “Our mission is to help people achieve independence, self-sufficiency, community participation and personal satisfaction through employment and day support services.”

A variety of employment programs are offered with AWB providing various levels of support including: job coaches, skills training, quality control and transportation. AWB supported individuals work as teams or singly at local businesses performing a variety of tasks and earning a paycheck. Jobs include: janitorial work, stocking, organization, lawn maintenance and more. Businesses interested in partnering with AWB can request a free job site evaluation by calling AWB.
