Danbury Boy Saves Baby Sister's Life Through 911 Call: LISTEN

The quick and calm action of a 9-year-old boy helped save his infant sister's life

DANBURY, CT — A local boy is being hailed as a hero after helping his mother save his one-month-old baby sister, who stopped breathing on Saturday. The boy, who was not identified by the Danbury Fire Department, helped translate instructions to his mother from a 911 dispatcher, which helped save his baby sister's life.

The family declined to talk to the media, but the Danbury Fire Department released audio of the shocking 911 call. In the audio, the boy can be heard calmly relaying instructions to his mother. Firefighters later identified the dispatcher as Ashley Romano, and said the call came in around 1:12 p.m..

"I need help, my one-month old baby is not breathing," the mother said to Romano, losing connection on the phone.

The boy can then be heard speaking to the 911 dispatcher, explaining the baby's condition concisely.

"She isn't breathing and she isn't making any noises," The boy told Romanp.

He was then instructed to lay the baby flat on the floor, and discovered the baby had choked on vomit. The boy was instructed to have his mother tilt the infant's head back gently, and was able to confirm the baby was breathing.

First responders then arrived on scene, and the baby's life was saved.

"Thanks to the quick thinking of a 9 year old boy, and the expertise of our dispatcher, a young life was saved," A Facebook post from the Danbury Fire Department stated.
