Danbury Program To Dispel Coronavirus Myths For Blacks, Latinos

DANBURY, CT — A collaborative targeting disadvantaged families is holding a webinar aimed at dispelling myths surrounding the coronavirus vaccine.

DanburyWORKS will host the virtual program Thursday, beginning at 7 p.m. Registration is required online.

On the panel will be the city's health director, a Danbury physician and a nurse practitioner discussing why Latinos and communities of color have concerns about the vaccine, according to a flyer.

Data from the early rounds of vaccinations indicated that, in the hyper-fragile demographic of age 75 and above, over 59 percent of the vaccine distributed went to white people. Less than 2 percent went to Blacks, and under 3 percent was administered to Hispanics. From the earliest days of the pandemic, Black and Hispanic communities have been, per capita, bearing more than their share of the COVID-19 burden.
