Danbury Teen Killed In I-84 Crash Identified

An Immaculate High School senior was killed after a single-car crash Friday on I-84

DANBURY, CT — Police have identified the fatal crash victim from an I-84 crash on Friday as Immaculate High School senior Liam Declan Devine, 17, of Danbury.

Devine was driving a Mazda 6 was westbound on I-84 near exit 9 in Newtown when his car suddenly left the roadway and entered the grassy right shoulder, according to a State Police accident report. The Mazda then collided with a large tree and caught fire. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Devine was an honor student in his senior year at Immaculate High School in Danbury. He particularly enjoyed graphic design and forensic classes, according to his obituary. He had planned to study sports journalism and analytics after being accepted into college. He played several instruments and was a member of Immaculate's guitar ensemble. He also enjoyed playing basketball with friends and family.

His funeral will take place Jan. 23 at 11 a.m. at St. Gregory the Great Church in Danbury. Family and friends will be received Jan. 22 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Danbury. The family asks that donations be made to Immaculate High School in lieu of flowers.

The crash remains under investigation and anyone with information is asked to contact State Police Troop A at 203-267-2240.
