Dump-Truck Crash Kills Danbury Man On I-684

SOUTHEAST, NY — A Danbury man died on I-684 Thursday morning when his car rear-ended a dump truck. New York State Police are investigating the fatal collision, which involved three vehicles northbound on the highway.

Jon A. Slater, 54, was pronounced deceased on scene, and transported to the Putnam Hospital Center.

Initial investigation of the collision revealed that a commercial dump truck entered the roadway from the median, north of exit 9W in the town of Southeast, police said.

Slater’s vehicle rear-ended the dump truck then traveled into the middle lane and struck a third vehicle.

The Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Collision Reconstruction Unit continue to investigate the cause of this collision, police said.
