Hazardous Weather Outlook, Flood Warning Issued By NWS

The National Weather Service said severe weather is moving through Fairfield and New Haven County.

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook and flood warning for central portions of Fairfield and and west central New Haven County until 5 p.m.

"At 347 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. One to one half inch of rain has already fallen. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin
shortly."

IMPACT...Flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other drainage and low lying areas.

Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Norwalk, Danbury, Shelton, Southbury, New Canaan, Newtown, Fairfield, Trumbull, Westport, Ridgefield, Monroe, Bethel, Wilton, Seymour and Brookfield.

In the hazardous weather outlook, the weather service said, “Showers and thunderstorms are likely ahead of an approaching cold front this afternoon into early this evening. A few of these storms could produce heavy rain capable of minor nuisance flooding, and gusty winds approaching severe limits.”


Here are the forecast details via the NWS:

This Afternoon: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 3pm, then a chance of showers. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. High near 79. South wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Tonight: Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 57. Southwest wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the evening.
