Hour-By-Hour Snow, Ice Forecast For Tuesday In CT

It's going to be a mess in Connecticut on Tuesday. Here is when you can expect the snow and ice and how much to expect.

CONNECTICUT — A snow and ice storm will move into Connecticut during the overnight hours and continue through the afternoon on Tuesday. A Winter Weather Advisory is now in effect for the entire state.

The major concern is ice, not snow. The precipitation will begin as snow everywhere and then transition to freezing rain and ice for the morning commute. Areas along the coast will see a transition to plain rain by mid-morning while inland and northern parts of the state may see several hours of sleet and freezing rain.

Southern Fairfield, Southern New Haven, Southern Middlesex, and Southern New London county: "Mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations of 1 to 2 inches and ice accumulations of up to one tenth of an inch."


Northern Fairfield, Northern New Haven, Northern Middlesex, and Northern New London county: "Mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches and ice accumulations of one tenth to two tenths of an inch. The highest snow accumulation will occur across the Lower Hudson Valley and interior southwest Connecticut."

Hartford, Tolland and Windham county: "Mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches and ice accumulations of up to two tenths of an inch. Moderate to heavy snow is expected to be in progress during the start of the Tuesday morning commute, which will be transitioning to sleet and freezing rain from south to north. Motorists planning travel Tuesday morning can expect hazardous travel with snow and ice covered roads along with poor visibility."


Litchfield County: Mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations of 3 to 6 inches and ice accumulations of up to two tenths of an inch. The snow will begin from south to north from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. The snow could be moderate to heavy at times overnight, with rates of half an inch up to an inch per hour at times. The snow will turn to sleet and freezing rain around daybreak Tuesday."
