A Danbury man was charged with racketeering and larceny after police say he defrauded area consumers with substandard work.

DANBURY, CT — Danbury police arrested a city man on Monday for racketeering after a lengthy investigation on his asphalt business. Police say the man and two accomplices defrauded customers with faulty asphalt work.

Legrande Cooper, 28, turned himself into police on a warrant and is charged with 11 counts of second-degree larceny and one count of racketeering. Police began a joint investigation with the Department of Consumer Protection after they learned of eight cases in the area where shoddy work was done, resulting in asphalt cracking and coming apart shortly after work was completed, police said.

Kayla Cooper, 24, of Cairo, N.Y. and Coty Cooper, 24 of Balston Spa, N.Y., have also been charged in connection to the scam. Legrande Cooper is being held on a $100,000 bond.
