Ashok Kumar Kar, 75 of Bhubaneswar, India, passed away on Sunday January 17th at 4:50 PM Eastern Time at the SUM Hospital, Bhubaneswar, after a brave fight with multiple ailments that locked him up in the hospital for four months. He was the husband of Kabita Kar and father of Arindam Kar of Bhubaneswar and Anindita Nanda of Danbury, CT. He left behind two grandchildren: Anish and Anwesha; son in law (Arup Nanda) and daughter in law(Soumya Kar), brothers, sisters and many nephews and nieces.
Mr Kar grew up in Choudwar, India, a place that was teeming with massive industrial activity and prosperity. His father, Dr. Suryamani Kar, was a popular Surgeon General. Third among 11 siblings, he taught himself to assist his father in the clinic; but eventually decided to pursue a degree in engineering in the oldest engineering university in the state. After that, he joined BIRD Company (later know as Thapar Group) as a mechanical engineer where he would eventually retire as a Chief Engineer of the Paper Processing Plant. He was a proud Rotarian, social worker, art lover, technical writer with a keen interest in writing and directing plays. After retirement he settled in Bhubaneswar to be close to his family.
Mr Kar’s life centered around his family and friends. Always one to strike a conversation and forge a friendship even among casual acquaintances, Mr Kar was loved as a company among those who came to his life. As his life was cut short, so was the smile from those whose lives he touched. May his soul rest in peace.
