Obituary: George K. Marcus Jr, 70, Of Danbury

Mr. Marcus was a retired Signal Maintainer starting in 1975 with Conrail and retiring in 2012 with Metro-North Railroad after 35 years.

DANBURY, CT — George K. Marcus, Jr., 70, of Danbury, died on Sunday, July 4, 2021, at his home.

Mr. Marcus was born in New Rochelle, NY, June 29, 1951, a son of Louise (Rasmussen) Marcus of Danbury and the late George K. Marcus Sr. He attended Danbury schools and graduated from Danbury High School in the Class of 1969.

A U.S. Army Vietnam Era veteran, Mr. Marcus was a retired Signal Maintainer starting in 1975 with Conrail and retiring in 2012 with Metro-North Railroad after 35 years of service. Mr. Marcus enjoyed the sport of racing and was a member of DIRT – Drivers Independent Race Tracks. George was a multi-point champion at Lebanon Valley Speedway in West Lebanon, NY, and was inducted into their Hall of Fame in 2004. He was a member of the Danbury War Memorial Fitness Center.
In addition to his mother Louise of Danbury, George is survived by a daughter, Katherine “Katie” Martins and her husband Carlos of Bethany, CT, a brother, Robbie Marcus and his wife Karen of Bethel, 2 sisters, Lynn Marcus (Tom Fluskey) of Bethel and Jane Stulb and her husband George of Ormond Beach, FL, 2 grandchildren, Simon and Cody as well as nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.

The family will receive friends in the Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, Danbury on Thursday, July 8, 2021, from 4 PM to 8 PM. Private interment services will take place in St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury at the direction of the family. The family requests that masks and or facial coverings be worn when attending the visitation.
