Workers are in the midst of the rough construction of a new Planet Fitness at 110 Federal Road, the former Borders Books Music Movies & Cafe. Borders closed in 2011. Planet Fitness' schedule calls for a grand opening in mid December.
"It looks like they're moving along fine on their schedule," said Permit Center Coordinator Sean Hearty.
According to plans in City Hall, Planet Fitness will fill the two-story building of about 26,300-square-feet. The entire construction project is estimated at $500,000.
When Danbury Patch posted this location as a Vision for Vacancies in February, people suggested it would make a great IHOP, a book store, gourmet food shop or, of all things, a "comprehensive fitness center."
The company is in the midst of rough construction and rough inspections, Hearty said. "I don't see any issue here. It's moving right along."
