Planet Fitness Opened Wednesday
Planet Fitness opens at 110 Federal Road, the former Borders Books location next to Home Depot.

Planet Fitness replaced Borders on Federal Road Wednesday when it opened its doors on a 26,000-square-foot "judgement-free" health club.
Planet Fitness made a name for itself by offering a low cost ($10 per month) fitness club that caters to people who don't join gyms. No grunting is allowed. A "lunk" alarm sounds if someone drops a weight. The club welcomes people who don't want to be judged or bothered by people with the workout attitude, "I pick things up. I put them down."
"We're trying to remove all the barriers to helping people do something for themselves," said Omar Simmons, one of the franchise owners. He said the location is excellent, with thousands of people driving by on their way to work every day. "They'll drive by and maybe decide to stop in and take care of themselves."
Simmons said customers receive free personal training, and that can be as simple as explaining how a piece of equipment works or as complicated as working out a person's schedule and needs.
The new Planet Fitness includes 100 cardio machines, including treadmills, elliptical machines, stationary bikes and others. It has fully equipped locker rooms with showers and day lockers. It includes 25 55-inch flat-screen televisions.
The club includes a 30-minute express circuit and a 12-minute ab circuit.
