Police Charge Danbury Man With Multiple Drug Offenses
Police say that Derrick "Country" Wiggins had approximately eight prior convictions for selling illegal drugs.
DANBURY, CT — Police charged a Danbury man with multiple drug-related offenses following an investigation.
The Danbury Police Department began their investigation of Derrick “Country” Wiggins, 47, after receiving multiple complaints from residents that he was selling illegal drugs throughout the city, according to Det. Lt. Mark Williams.
On Monday at around 2:30 p.m., DPD investigators, joined by agents from the Drug Enforcement Agency established a surveillance of 2 Mill Ridge Road, the Mill Ridge Plaza and Wiggins residence on High Ridge Road.

Shortly after 3 p.m., Wiggins exited his car and people loitering in the area approached him. Police moved in on him when they say it looked as though he was about to engage in drug sales.
"Wiggins attempted to flee and in the process was seen discarding illegal drugs from his person," Williams said.

After a short struggle, Wiggins was taken into custody, according to police.
After detaining Wiggins, police executed their search warrant for his residence. The investigation uncovered a "significant quantity of heroin, crack cocaine, money, and drug paraphernalia," according to police.
Based on the findings, Wiggins was placed under arrest and taken to the DPD headquarters. Police charged him with two counts of possession of a controlled substance, two counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, two counts of possession of a controlled substance within 1,500 feet of a school, two counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell within 1,500 feet of a school, interfering with the duties of a police officer, and operating a motor vehicle without a license.
Wiggins had approximately eight prior convictions for selling illicit drugs, according to the police report. He is being held for a $150,000 cash bond.
