Severe Thunderstorm Warning For Southern Connecticut

Strong storms are expected soon.

SOUTHERN, CONNECTICUT — The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for central portions of Fairfield County and west central portions of New Haven County in southern Connecticut until 8:45 p.m.

The weather service said at 8 p.m. severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near New Windsor to near Vernon Valley, moving east at 70 mph.

Impacted areas could see 60 mph wind gusts and damage to trees and power lines is possible.

Severe thunderstorms will be near...
Brewster and Monsey around 815 PM EDT.
Haverstraw and Nyack around 820 PM EDT.
Danbury and Ossining around 825 PM EDT.
Mount Kisco and Newtown around 830 PM EDT.
Greenwich and Bedford around 835 PM EDT.


Additionally, a line of strong storms is expected to impact north-western New London County, and north central New Haven and Middlesex counties.

At 805 p.m. radar indicated strong thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Hebron to near Cheshire, the weather service said. Movement was east at 25 mph.

"These thunderstorms will be capable of producing wind gusts up to 50 mph and half inch hail," the weather service said.

Waterbury, Meriden, Middletown, Wallingford, Norwich, Naugatuck, Wolcott, Colchester, East Hampton, Durham, Salem, Chester, Hartford, Hamden and Cheshire.
