What's Open, What's Closed July 4th Weekend in Danbury
Most places are closed on Friday, July 4, one of the biggest holidays of the year, although quite a bit is still open on Saturday, July 5.
Government offices and some other places close on Friday, Independence Day, July 4 and remain closed through the weekend, although there are some important exceptions to that.
Here's a list of what's open and what's closed this weekend:
FRIDAY, July 4
U.S. government offices are closed.
Post offices are closed.
Connecticut state government offices are closed.
The Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles is closed.
American Automobile Association Southern New England offices are closed.
Danbury City Hall and town government offices are closed.
Danbury Library will be closed Friday.
Banks, all or almost all —even TD Banks, including the one at 55 Post Rd., are closed. (All banks in the state have the option of remaining open on public holidays. In practice, TD Bank is closed the least.)
The New York Stock Exchange is closed.
Almost all non-retail businesses, and many retail businesses, are closed, including Costco.
According to this Metro-North announcement: "A Sunday schedule will operate on July 4, with several additional trains on the Harlem and New Haven Lines to get you to and from the annual Macy's Fireworks. Please see a current timetable or visit our schedules page."
SATURDAY, July 5
Post offices are open.
American Automobile Association Southern New England offices are closed.
TRANSPORTATION
Connecticut Transit in Stamford and Darien will operate on a Sunday schedule for Friday, July 4.
Wheels, the Norwalk Transit District, will have no service on Friday, July 4.
Metro-North will have extra trains departing Grand Central Terminal on Thursday, July 3. Also, according to this Metro-North announcement: "A Sunday schedule will operate on July 4, with several additional trains on the Harlem and New Haven Lines to get you to and from the annual Macy's Fireworks. Please see a current timetable or visit our schedules page."
Metro-North will change it's schedule on Monday, July 7.
