Boughton: Some Danbury Power Outage Situations 'Life Threatening'

"So far Eversource has not responded to our pleas to restore service (at the Glen Apartments) and there are no trucks on scene" - Boughton

DANBURY, CT — Describing the situation at the Glen Apartments on Memorial Drive, home to many elderly and/or disabled residents and without power since Tuesday as "serious," Mayor Mark Boughton promised to relocate them to a shelter if there is no relief by midday Monday.

"So far Eversource has not responded to our pleas to restore service and there are no trucks on scene," Boughton said on social media. "We've moved HART buses in for cooling overnight." He added that "we will figure out a way to pay for their housing" later.

"These situations around Danbury are now becoming life threatening," the mayor said Sunday evening.

Roads around the city are reopening as crews continue the removal of trees and downed power cables.

The city is updating the list of passable roads as wires are repaired, and trees removed.

Statewide, outages along the path of Tropical Storm Isaias easily eclipsed those of Hurricane Sandy in 2012 and came close to rivaling those of the October snowstorm and Hurricane Irene in 2011. Eversource estimated it will make significant progress by the end of the weekend and have its restoration substantially complete across the state by Tuesday at 11:59 p.m.

The city has established a number of resources to benefit residents while they wait for Eversource to restore power.
