63 Acre Private Island In Darien Back On The Market For 9-Figures

DARIEN, CT — Great Island, a 63-acre private island in Darien, is back on the market, this time for $120 million, according to the listing brokerage Houlihan Lawrence and realtor.com.

When last for sale, the island - which has multiple dwellings and features more than a mile of direct Long Island Sound coastline - was listed for $175 million.

"The property is beautiful; a private drive leads to the grand nine bedroom manor house, an original 19th century farmhouse, guest and caretaker houses and a charming seaside cottage," the listing states. "The shoreline is reminiscent of the Maine coast."

Adjacent to Long Neck Point in Darien, Great Island is less than 10 miles from Greenwich and less than an hour from New York City. The island's main house, built in 1905, measures more than 13,000 square feet and has nine bedrooms and seven fireplaces.

"Great Island is home to its own equestrian center, including an18-stall granite stable complete with arched Guastavino-tile vaulted ceilings similar to those found in Grand Central Terminal’s Oyster Bar," writes Houlihan Lawrence in a release. "A Grand Prix indoor and outdoor riding arenas, and outdoor sand dressage arena, plus its own private network of bridle trails make this property one of the premier equestrian estates available for purchase across the country."

David Turner of Houlihan Lawrence Private Brokerage has been named the exclusive listing agent for the property, which was owned by the Steinkraus family for generations.
