DURHAM, CT — Several towns, including Durham, will be holding hiring events for the new Amazon fulfillment center in North Haven in the next few weeks. The first hiring event, which was held July 9 at North Haven High School, drew about 550 job seekers. Amazon is looking to hire about 1,800 full-time employees at the North Haven Fulfillment Center, which is set to open later this summer.
About 80 percent of the people who attended the July 9 hiring event received contingent job offers, according to Workforce Alliance.
“(Last week’s) event was an amazing start and we look forward to working with Amazon and other employers on future events,” said Bill Villano, President and CEO of Workforce Alliance. “We are a resource for employers large and small to support their training, recruitment and hiring efforts.”

Workforce Alliance offers the following information for interested job seekers to know before attending a hiring event:
These events are for North Haven warehouse associate positions only. Visit here to apply in advance and streamline the Hiring Event process. Job seekers who do not complete the online application and assessment in advance will be considered walk-ins, and must arrive by 2:30 p.m.
Applications are considered complete once a candidate has selected a shift(s) and completed an I-9 employment eligibility verification form. This form is accessed through a link and a PIN that is emailed to a candidate after shifts are selected following a successful online application and assessment.
All candidates must also bring identification documents to a Hiring Event in order to complete the on boarding process. Acceptable examples include: a current U.S. Passport, Permanent Resident Card or Alien Registration Receipt Card, or current Employment Authorization Document Card. If you do not have these documents, a valid driver’s license, military ID card, or ID card issued by a government entity, plus a Social Security Card or birth certificate are acceptable. For additional options for I-9 documentation, visit here.
Attendees should expect to spend two to three hours at the hiring event to complete all of the on-boarding tasks including a drug screen. Heavily attended Amazon Hiring Events and walk-ins may require more time. Job offers are contingent on the results of a drug screen and background check.
Job seekers can get help completing applications at a Support Session on July 16 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Meriden American Job Center at 87 W. Main St., Meriden. Reserve a spot here. Other Support Sessions will be announced at workforcealliance.biz.
