Bee Blamed for Head-On Crash in Rockfall

A head-on collision in Rockfall that left two people injured last week was caused by a bee, according to a police report.

Police say Stanley Rzeczka, 51, of Rockfall, was traveling south on Route 157 near the Middletown border when his Ford F-250 slammed head on into a Chevrolet Blazer driven by Brian Lapila, 39, of Middletown.

Rzeczka told police that he was swiping at a bee inside the cab of his truck when he crossed over into oncoming traffic.

Lapila was trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated by firefighters. He was taken to Hartford Hospital with unknown injuries. Rzeczka suffered minor injuries in the crash but refused medical treatment, the report says.

The road was closed for about an hour after the crash.

Rzeczka was placed at fault for the accident and cited for failing to stay in his lane.
