Beloved Dive Bar Closes Abruptly In Middlefield: Report

The bar was well known in the region.

MIDDLEFIELD, CT — The Red Dog Saloon at 222 Meriden Road, which is a local beloved dive bar largely for motorcycle enthusiasts abruptly closed Saturday, reports The Middletown Press. The bar was very popular with motorcyclists across the region and had been in business for decades.

The bar was known to confiscate attire that wasn't deemed appropriate for patrons including ties, polo shirts, and in some cases women's undergarments, the Middletown Press reports. Bike blessings were held there too along with numerous other events including a Christmas Bazaar.

"Get 'yer motor 'runnin......" This is the mantra for this run down relic from the seventies. Step back in time and visit, once again, your high school days. Tough guys abound, most of which are 'sportin it in good form. All components are in place and well represented. The bartenders are skilled in the use of the fly swatter: WARNING: Grab hold of your Miller High Life as that swing of the swatter cold send it across the room.

I will state that they have a swatting average of nearly 900 so I give kudos for that distinction. The jukebox, I use the term loosely, is (full) to say the least. The caliber of conversation at the bar ranges from the insipid to the insane. Interestingly, on a daily basis, there is virtually no variation. These items being stated i must confess that the beer is, in fact, quite cold and the bartender most assuredly does not allow you to go dry. A final note: strap on a good sense of humor and even a starter buzz prior to entering the premises. I promise that you will have an experience you won't forget although it's questionable whether you'd want to repeat it."
