Durham Fair Returns For Its 96th Year

The fair features live entertainment, rides, games, animal exhibits, competitions and more.

For the final full weekend of September, Durham will host the 96th annual Durham Fair, the largest fair in North America managed entirely by unpaid volunteers, according to the event’s website.

Highlighted events include performances from Martina McBride, Craig Morgan and Confederate Railroad, as well as motorized events, animal pulls, talent shows, mutts gone nuts and redneck games, the website says.

The four-day fair’s overall schedule is as follows:

  • Thursday, Sept. 24 from 4 to 10 p.m.
  • Friday, Sept. 25 from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Saturday, Sept. 26 from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Sunday, Sept. 27 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

General admission to the Thursday’s fair events costs $8, but is free for children under the age of 11, active military with ID and attendees in wheelchairs, the website says.

General admission for Friday, Saturday and Sunday’s events costs $13 for adults, $10 for young adults ages 12 through 21, but is free for children under the age of 11, active military with ID and attendees in wheelchairs, the website says.

Tickets bought in advance online for general admission cost $10, the website says. Student discounts are offered on-site, and multi-day tickets can be purchased as well.
